Cut down on your tears while cutting onions!

Why do we cry when we cut onions? When the onions enzymes break down they create sulphenic acids. These acids mix with the air and eventually cause your eyes to tear. A helpful way to cut down on your tears is to cut down on the amount of sulphenic acid that is produced. All you have to do in order to reduce the acid produced is keep your onions cold in a refrigerator or root cellar. This inhibits that enzymes so they can’t produce as much acid. Your eyes will thank you!

Here is a Tip to hit a nail beyond your reach!

If your walls are high or if you are trying to hit a nail in an awkward spot it can be hard to hold a nail with your hand. Here is a Tip to make this scenario a little easier to manage. Use a piece of cardboard. Cut the cardboard long enough to reach the point where you want to pound in your nail. You are going to insert the nail through the corrugated part of the cardboard so be sure to cut the card board shorter than the length of the nail. Once you have finished hammering in your nail you can easily tear the cardboard away.
